Description
32 and 34 High Street is a house and shop located at the end of a row, dating from the early 17th century with a refaced front from the 18th century. The building features painted irregular Flemish bond brickwork, a tiled roof, and brick stacks. It is two stories high with four windows. The ground floor includes a 20th-century door with a pediment supported by pilasters, flanked by 16-pane sash windows on either side, and a 20th-century shop front to the right. On the first floor, there are three 9-pane sash windows and a pair of 9-pane sashes to the right, with dentilled eaves above. Attached to the right is a late 18th-century extension that has a 20th-century bow window and a pair of 9-pane sashes on the first floor. The right side of the building is windowless, and the rear is not accessible. The interior is reported to have chamfered beams and exposed chamfered joists, along with an open fireplace featuring a chamfered lintel. The original early 17th-century timber framing is faced with brick from the 18th century.
