Description

Two houses at 36 and 38 Bridge Street, Pershore, were likely built in the second half of the 18th century, with alterations occurring in the first half of the 19th century and later changes. Originally containing shops on the ground floor, they are now used as domestic residences. The houses are constructed of red brick in a Flemish bond, with the ground floor painted. They have a plain tile roof with painted brick dogtooth eaves and brick end stacks.

The exterior is three storeys high, with a cellar, and features a three-window front. The second floor has two two-over-two pane plate glass sashes, and one smaller, three-over-six pane sash, all with projecting sills and shallow painted, gauged brick flat arches. The first floor includes a canted bay window on the right, with a pitched leaded roof and an enriched cornice, and four-over-four, six-over-six, and four-over-four pane sashes. Two boxed sashes with similar arches are on the left. The ground floor also has canted bay windows, with four-over-one, six-over-one, and four-over-one pane sashes to the left, and horned sashes with a similar configuration to the right. A replacement six-panel door sits to the left of centre, accessed by two stone steps, within an architrave with panelled reveals. To the right is a six-panel door with a Y-traceried fanlight, set within a wooden architrave featuring fluted pilasters with paterae and an open pediment; panelled reveals are present. A deep painted brick plinth conceals a cellar grille. The interior of the houses has not been inspected.
