Description
This is a milepost located about 12 yards south of The Cross House in Beckford, dated 1877. It is made of limestone ashlar and features a tall square base topped with a pyramidal capping. At the apex of the pyramid, there is a circular column that stands about three feet high, with a moulded base and capital. The capital is topped with an unusual finial shaped like an orb and crown. The tall base is inscribed with the names of various villages and towns along with their distances in miles. On the north side of the base, it reads "ELIZABETH II/ CORONATION." The central inscription is illegible, but below it, it states "JUBILEE/ 1887/ BECKFORD." The milepost is prominently situated at the west end of the village.
