Description

Church Villa, now known as Everton's Stores and Checkett's Butchers Shop, is a mid-19th century house that has been converted into two shops, with some alterations and additions made in the mid-20th century. The building is constructed of brick and features a hipped slate roof behind a tall embattled parapet, with central and end brick stacks on the main roof. It stands two storeys high and has a moulded eaves cornice, with a façade that consists of 1:2:1 bays, where the central two bays project slightly.

The front elevation displays Gothic detailing, with first-floor windows that have gauged flat heads and are multi-paned casements featuring pointed arched lights. The outer bays have 2-light windows, while the central bays have 3-light windows. On the ground floor, there are two shop fronts with plate glass windows flanking mid-19th century doorcases. The doors are located at the outer edges of the central bays and are topped with flat canopies and pilastered surrounds. The left door is half-glazed with pointed arched tracery, while the right door is a 20th-century glazed version. Although the ground floor and rear have undergone alterations, the building retains sufficient architectural interest due to its Gothic windows and embattled parapet, and the changes made to the ground floor are not considered irredeemable.
