Description
No. 42 Henwick Road is a house that is part of a terrace built in four separate phases. It dates from the early 19th century and has had later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of orange-red brick with stone sills and features a hand-made plain clay tile roof. The gables are parapeted with stone copings, and there are end stacks with pots.
The house has a timber doorcase and a symmetrical facade, with a single-depth plan that includes a central entrance hall. It stands three storeys high with a basement and has three first-floor windows. The brick detailing includes dentilled eaves. The windows on the ground and first floors are 6/6 with flat gauged brick arches, while the centre second-floor window is blank, with 3/3 windows on either side, all near-flush with the sills. The entrance features a 6-panel door, with the bottom pair being flush-beaded, the centre panels raised and fielded, and the top pair glazed. The doorcase is adorned with fluted pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The interior has not been inspected.
