Description

A pair of similar houses built in the early 19th century as part of a terrace, with later additions and alterations. They are built of painted brick with a plain clay tile roof, the left side having machine-made tiles and the right side having handmade tiles, with dentilled eaves. A central ridge stack features pots and oversailing detail. The houses have timber doorcases and a single-depth plan with entrances on the left and right. The house on the right is wider than the house on the left, and both have three storeys and a basement.

The first floor windows are arranged as two windows per house (1:1). The left-hand house (number 50) has 6/6 windows in near-flush frames, set under segmental arched heads and without sills; its second floor windows are blind. Number 48 has 20th-century replacement metal-framed windows. There are two stone steps leading to a six-panel entrance door on the left, which is raised and fielded. Two steps lead to a four-panel door on the right, with the bottom pair being flush-double-beaded and the upper pair glazed. Both doorcases have open pediments and console brackets. The interior has not been inspected.
