Description

St Clement’s House is a house, originally part of an adjoining pair, dating from circa 1780 to 1820, and located on Henwick Road, Worcester. It has been subdivided into two separate dwellings, numbered 28 and 28A. The house is constructed of red-brown brick with tuck pointing, and features stone dressings. It has hipped plain clay tile roofs with dentilled eaves, and ridge stacks with overhanging details and pots.

The plan is of a single depth with central entrance and staircase, with rooms to the left, now separate accommodation (number 28A), set slightly back towards the street with a forward projection containing the entrance. The building is three storeys high with a basement, and has three first-floor windows. Stone details include window sills and moulded-cap keystones to window heads. The windows are primarily eight-pane sashes; the central window on the landing is six-pane; the second-floor windows are four-pane; all are contained within likely flush frames and are set beneath flat, gauged brick arches. There are two steps leading to the main entrance in the centre right, with a six-panel door; the lower pair of panels are flush-beaded, and the upper pair are glazed, within a doorcase featuring pilasters and a dentilled pediment. A five-panel door to the left, serving number 28A, is located in the flank wall, with the lower pair and centre panels flush double-beaded, and the upper panels glazed. The rear elevation to the left has windows with a similar appearance to the main facade, but with segmental arches and without sills. The interior has not been inspected.
