Description
No. 6 Bath Road is a house that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early 19th century and has had some later additions and alterations. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick laid in Flemish bond, featuring window arches made of dark red brick, stone sills, and a slate roof. The end brick stacks have been renewed and include oversailing courses and pots, with raised brick gables.
The house has a double depth plan with a central hallway and stands three storeys tall above a half basement. The front has three first-floor windows, with the first floor featuring 8/8 sash windows; the center window is narrower than the others. The second floor has a central blind window flanked by two 4/4 sash windows, while the ground floor also has 8/8 sash windows. All windows have plain reveals and flat arches made of gauged brick.
The central entrance has four renewed roll-edged steps leading up to a five-panel door, where the lower two panels are flush beaded and the upper panels are raised and fluted. Above the door is a fanlight with radial glazing bars, set in flush panelled reveals. The entrance is framed by a fluted architrave with a keystone and lion masks. The basement features a blind opening to the left and an 8-pane fixed light to the right, both with flat arches.
The building is part of a good group with Nos 11-23 (odd) and Nos 6, 10, 16, and 18 Bath Road, as well as Nos 117 and 119 Sidbury.
