Description

115 Sidbury is a former public house dating to 1898, with later alterations, including those to the interior and a rear extension in 1997. It is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond, with plaster decoration to the gables, and has a plain tile roof. The building is of Queen Anne Revival style.

The three-storey building has four windows to the first floor, with continuous dentil cornices and two gabled sections above, also with dentil cornices and oculi, embellished with strapwork. The ground floor features two wide, ovolo-moulded arches with raised voussoirs, encompassing a recessed bow with three plate-glass, elliptically-arched windows on each side, separated by pilaster strips and set on panelled plinths. Two entrances have part-glazed doors and side-lights, and a multi-pane overlight. A shaped frieze and cornice, with egg and dart moulding, runs over the ground floor and forms a sill band at the first floor. The first floor features multi-pane casement windows with cambered arches, set within cambered-arched recesses with ovolo-moulding. A cornice over the first floor serves as the sill band for the second-floor windows, which are multi-pane casements with cambered heads and plain reveals.

The ground-floor bow retains its original dentil moulding, panelling, and fitted seating. A dogleg staircase on the right side retains turned balusters and ball finials to the newel posts, but the remainder of the ground floor has been stripped out. The building offers a fine example of a late 19th century commercial frontage in the Queen Anne Revival style.
