Description
No. 18 Queen Street is a house that has been converted into offices, built in the early 19th century. It features Flemish-bond brick walls with a plinth, stone cills, and a slate mansard roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with attics, arranged in a four-window range. There are three raking dormers, each with two-light casement windows. The windows on the second floor are fitted with gauged flat arches and consist of 3/6-pane sash windows. The lower floors have plate-glass sashes to the left, while the right-of-centre door is situated beneath a 6/6-pane sash window, with a late 19th-century horned plate-glass tripartite sash to the right. To the right of the first floor, there is a horned 2/2-pane sash window.
Steps lead up to the entrance, which features a six-panel door with raised-and-fielded panels and beaded panels at the base, topped by an ornamental fanlight set in a gauged semicircular arch. To the left of the door, there is a late 19th-century cast-iron bootscraper embedded in the wall, and to the right, there are two openings leading to a semi-basement. The building is clearly designed in the same style and from the same period as the late Georgian development around King Square. The interior has not been inspected.
