Description
No. 13 is a house that has been converted into offices, dating from around 1770 to 1800. It is built of Flemish-bond brick and features stone coping on the parapet, a cornice, stepped voussoirs, and a doorcase. The building has a 20th-century raised mansard roof with a dormer, zig-zag tiles, and brick stacks at the gable ends. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with an attic and basement, showcasing a three-window range. The house is set slightly back from the adjacent buildings.
The windows include some crown glass; the second floor has 3/3-pane sash windows, the first floor features 6/9-pane sashes and has a rectangular balcony with wrought-iron railings and remnants of lead ornaments, while the ground floor has 6/6-pane sashes. The left side has a six-panel door with raised-and-fielded panels on the top and beaded panels at the bottom, set within a semicircular reeded arch that includes a keystone and reeded imposts. The basement windows and door have flat brick arches from the 20th century.
The property also has pointed railings with urn finials in front of the basement area, leading to a path that crosses it to the door. No interior details have been inspected. This house is part of a notable late Georgian square, built on the site of Bridgwater Castle.
