Description

This is a stable building, dating to the 17th century with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. It is located approximately 20 yards west of Callow Hill House. The stable is timber-framed with painted brick infill, a brick plinth, some weatherboarding, and a plain tiled roof. It comprises two framed bays aligned north to south and features two levels. The timber framing shows two panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with collar and tie-beam trusses, struts beneath the collar, and a V-strut in the apex. The east-facing elevation has two stable doors, one in each bay. An attic light is present in the north gable end. The south elevation incorporates a gabled loft door, now containing a six-pane window. The interior roof features two tiers of trenched purlins. A 19th-century lean-to addition adjoins the north-east side; both the lean-to and the two-bay wing have a dentilled eaves cornice. The two-bay wing has two large doorways in its south elevation, while the lean-to has a rectangular light in its north elevation.
