Description
Fields Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been converted into a house, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century and mid-20th century. The building features a timber frame that is roughcast, with brick refacing and replacement walling, topped by a plain tiled roof. It consists of two framed bays aligned north to south and has a large chimney at the south gable end, which is enclosed by a mid-19th-century addition that continues the roof ridge. The structure is single storey with an attic that includes dormers and partly features a dentilled eaves cornice.
The rear of the building shows visible framing, with three panels extending from the sill to the wall-plate and short straight braces in the upper corners. Although the trusses are not visible, the original roof structure likely still exists. The east front elevation has three 2-light 20th-century casements that have been inserted into 19th-century openings with cambered heads. There are also three gabled dormers with 2-light casements and a hipped-roofed porch to the right of centre, which has a 20th-century door and rectangular lights in the side elevations.
Inside, apart from the front wall, the framing appears to be largely intact. A large fireplace is retained in the south bay, with a winder staircase located to the east side of it. A Birmingham fire insurance mark is attached to the central dormer. Additionally, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension with a tall stack at the rear of the north bay.
