Description
A house dating from the mid-18th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid-19th century. The house is constructed of brick, partly rendered with a stucco finish. It has two-span slate roofs, partly hipped, and end brick stacks. The building is two storeys and has an attic. The rear range features terracotta modillion eaves cornices. The main front has three bays, with windows having hood moulds incorporating returns. Just below each moulding is a row of three plaster roses. The windows are mostly 16-pane sashes, although the central first-floor window is a 12-pane sash. A 19th-century ashlar porch, flat-roofed with a moulded cornice and blocking course, shelters the central entrance. The door is 20th century, with a transom light and a pilastered surround where the lower section of the pilasters is fluted. The doorway is flanked by ogee-arched lights with sill and impost bands. The gable ends of the front range contain attic windows. Inside the 18th-century front range, the main ceiling beams are stop-chamfered, with run-out stops. The central hall retains its dog-leg staircase, with a moulded handrail and turned balusters. A large 19th-century bay window, with stained glass upper lights, is located at the left end of the rear range. A hipped-roofed, two-storey addition is present to the rear right side, including a 16-pane sash window on both the ground and first floor elevations.
