Description
Lovelyne Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the late 16th century with alterations made in the mid-18th century and restored in the mid-20th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill on a sandstone base, along with some sandstone walling and brick replacement walling, topped with plain tiled roofs. The building has a hall and cross-wing plan, with the hall consisting of two framed bays aligned north-west to south-east. A large chimney is located at the end of the north-westernmost bay, featuring three rebuilt star-shaped stacks at the rear of the ridge. The cross-wing at the north-western end also comprises two framed bays and has a large external chimney with offsets and two square stacks on the south-east side of the rear bay. The structure is part single storey with an attic that includes dormers, and part two storeys.
The framing of the hall part consists of three and four panels from the sill to the wall-plate, with no visible trusses. The front bay of the cross-wing has close-set studding on the ground floor and three rows of rectangular panels at the first-floor level, along with short straight upper corner braces. It features a collar and tie-beam truss with two collars, three struts to the lower collar, two to the upper collar, and a V-strut in the apex. The rear bay has been largely rebuilt. The windows are mainly of 20th-century wood-mullioned type with leaded casements.
On the north-east front elevation, the hall part includes a 4-light oriel window supported by two shaped brackets with a plank weathering, two 2-light windows with plank weatherings, and a 2-light landing window. There are also two gabled dormers, one with a 2-light window and the other with a 3-light window, along with a 20th-century door featuring a moulded architrave and cornice. The gable end of the cross-wing has a 20th-century ground floor oriel window on three shaped brackets with tiled weathering and a 4-light first-floor window with plank weathering. Inside, there are some moulded ceiling beams, although the staircases have been replaced. A lean-to addition encloses the rear external chimney.
