Barn And Stable About 30 Yards North West Of Crumpfields Farmhouse

The building is a barn and stable, likely dating from the mid-18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and weatherboarding, featuring some brick replacement walling on a brick plinth, and has a half-hipped plain tiled roof. The structure consists of four framed bays aligned north to south. The wagon bay, located second from the south end, has opposed cart entries with double doors on the east elevation. There is also a loft door to the right of the east elevation.

Inside, the barn features long rectangular panels that extend from the sill to the wall-plate, long straight braces, and collar and tie-beam trusses supported by two struts beneath the collar and raking struts in the lower corners. The north bay is floored, and the ground floor is used as calf pens, which are accessed through two doors in the west elevation.

Adjoining the south gable end is a 19th-century brick stable with a stable door in its east elevation. A cow shed located on the east side of the north bay is noted as not being of special architectural interest. The barn and stable are positioned on the west side of the farmyard, adjacent to Crumpfields Farmhouse, and are included for their group value.
