Description
The Main Lodge to Abberley Hall, located in Abberley, was built around 1883, possibly designed by J P St Aubyn for J J Jones of Abberley Hall. The lodge features coursed, squared rubble with freestone dressings and a plain tiled roof, designed in a Tudor Gothic style with an irregular T-plan. It has two storeys, with a single bay in each wing. Each wing includes a 1:3:1-light bay window with trefoil heads and transoms in the gable end, as well as three-light casement windows with ovolo moulded mullions on the first floor. There is a single light window to the right of the porch, which projects under a lean-to roof in the re-entrant angle. The porch has an outer Caernarvon arch doorway and an inner plank door. Square tablets featuring the Jones crest are found in each gable end, and there is a projecting rubble stack with an in-built seat under a blind arch on the left-hand gable. The lodge is partly situated in the Civic Parish of Great Witley, while the nearby gates and walls are entirely within the Civil Parish of Great Witley.
