Description
The former stable block and coach house, now used as classrooms and a chapel, was built around 1867 for John Joseph Jones of Abberley Hall. It is constructed of red brick with freestone dressings and features a plain tiled roof with decorative ridge tiles. The building is designed in a plain Italianate style and is quadrangular in shape, enclosing a stable yard.
A central tower with a low pyramidal roof and overhanging eaves features a round archway and a panel of arms above a string course. The top stage of the tower has a 3-light round-headed window embellished with freestone quoins, imposts, and bands of blue brick. The flanking wings are slightly advanced and consist of four bays, with round-headed glazed casement windows set in semi-circular headed niches on the ground floor, linked by impost bands, and segmental headed sash windows with vertical glazing bars on the first floor, along with a freestone band.
To the right, there is a two-storey, four-bay former coachman's house, where the three right-hand bays are under a hipped roof. The fenestration and details match those of the main block, but all windows have vertical glazing bars, and there is a panelled door in a recessed section on the left.
The single-storey and attic side wings, which were formerly stables, have a mansard roof. They feature four varied segmental headed glazing bar sash and casement windows, along with panelled and plank doors on the ground floor, all beneath a plain band and square headed and pedimented dormers in the attic. The rear block, which was formerly the coach house, is now a chapel with six bays, five round-headed windows, and an off-centre door.
