Description

A pair of estate cottages dating from the mid-19th century, altered in the 20th century. Constructed of red brick with slate roofs, the cottages are built in a Tudor-Gothic and Swiss Chalet style. They were originally a central block with lower, set-back porch blocks (the right-hand porch has since been raised and extended). A central stack is present, and the roof has a single-storey and attic layout, featuring three gabled dormers—originally two—with decorative barge boards and finials. The windows are two-light casements with lattice glazing. A stable door is located on the left, leading to Woodbury View, while the right-hand cottage, Rotherfield, has an altered gable entry. A porthole is visible in place of a former doorway. The stack has diagonal plan shafts. These cottages form part of a group with Fox Cottage and No 37 (Meadow View), contributing to their group value.
