Description
This is a group of farm buildings dating from the early to mid-19th century. They form two sides of a former U-shaped farmyard, with the barn located to the north and a stable/loft and two oast houses to the east. A former cowhouse to the west was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in the 20th century, and is not included in the listing.
The barn has six bays and two threshing floors, with square-headed openings. The brickwork is articulated to suggest blind arcading, and features full-height semi-circular arches with imposts, highlighting the bay divisions. Recessed semi-circular arched panels are constructed with perforated brickwork. A 20th-century steel-framed extension obscures part of the fold yard elevation. Inside, the trusses have inclined struts and rest on brick spur walls. A 20th-century floor has been inserted into the central bays.
The stable adjoins the barn on the east side and is two stories high, with a dentil eaves cornice and cambered lintels over doorways and window openings. A loft is situated above. The two oast houses are located to the southeast of the stable wing. They are square plan Hereford oasts, altered and now used as calf pens.
The buildings have group value with Walsgrove Farmhouse.
