Description
Two barns, dating from the first half of the 18th century, are located about 30 metres south-west of Hope Farmhouse. They are constructed with a timber frame and brick infill on a rubble plinth, topped with a continuous plain tiled roof. Both barns feature square panelled framing, three panels high to the wall-plate, and straight tension braces on the front side away from the farmyard.
The left barn has four structural bays, with opposed threshing doors positioned to the left of centre and irregular openings to the right. It has a raking strut roof without collars, supported by heavy curved braces connecting the tie-beam to the sill, along with spurs to the wall posts. The right barn also has four structural bays and features a gabled central loft entry, with raking strut roof trusses.
