Description
This is a pair of barns located southeast of Moat Farmhouse, dating from the 18th century and later in the 18th century. The barns are constructed with a weatherboarded timber frame set on a brick plinth, featuring a gable-ended roof covered in corrugated iron sheets. The northern barn has five bays, while the southern end includes a three-bay extension from the later 18th century, along with later outshuts.
Inside, the wall framing consists of studs and long straight tension braces, but lacks a midrail. The unjowled wall posts are supported by curved knee braces that replace the braces to the tie-beams. Both the main and intermediate trusses feature straight collars and two tiers of staggered butt purlins, while the common rafters do not have a ridgeboard. The three-bay extension at the southern end has a roughly constructed clasped purlin roof, large tie-beams with knee braces, common rafters with a ridge-board, unjowled posts, and wall framing with studs and long straight tension braces.
