Description

Grove Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the late 16th century to early 17th century, with an addition from the late 18th century to early 19th century. It is timber framed with rendered infill and brick, topped with a roof made of plaintile and pantile. The building has two storeys and an attic.

On the entrance front, there are 20th-century windows. To the right, there is a single bay from the late 18th or early 19th century, which has a lean-to on its right side. The left side features the earlier portion, which has a projecting 20th-century gabled wing positioned left of center. This wing contains a panelled door in the center, a single-light casement to the right, and a 2-light casement on the first floor. To the left of the wing, there are two 2-light windows on both the ground and first floors. To the right, there are three 2-light casements and one 3-light casement on the ground floor, along with two 2-light casements on the first floor. The far right side of the later addition includes a 3-light bow window on the ground floor and a 3-light gabled semi-dormer on the first floor. The right gable end is mostly blank except for a 20th-century chimney stack, while the left gable end has a 3-light window on the ground floor, a 2-light window on the first floor, and a blocked attic window. The lean-to on the left features a 2-light casement on the ground floor.

At the rear, there is a long outshut from the 20th century at ground floor level. On the first floor, to the left, there is a single-light and two 3-light casements, and to the right, a 17th-century 3-light window with an ovolo-moulded surround and mullions. The later addition on the left of this includes a 2-light casement on the ground floor and a 3-light first floor gabled semi-dormer.

Inside, the farmhouse features close studding and chamfered ceiling beams on both the ground and first floors. There is a screens passage with a screen that has moulded muntins, jowled wall posts, and a massive chimney breast with a baffle entry.
