Description
Manor Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th century to early 17th century. It is timber-framed, covered with colourwashed render, and has a thatched roof. The building has two storeys and features a 2-cell baffle-entry plan.
On the front facing the road, there is a three-light window on the ground floor to the right, which has ovolo-moulded mullions and has been partially renewed. To the left of the centre is a 2-light window with 20th-century glazing, and further left are a 3-light and a 4-light window, both with diamond-section mullions, although the one on the right has been renewed. On the first floor, to the left of centre, there is a 2-light window with ovolo-moulded mullions. At the ridge, to the left of centre, is a stack with two flues.
The right gable end features a three-light window on the ground floor with an ovolo-moulded surround, which has been widened in the 20th century, and a first-floor three-light window with ovolo-moulded detailing. The bressumer has a planted fascia that was brought from Featherstone Hall.
At the rear, there is an outshut extending the length of the ground floor, primarily built of 20th-century brick with a pantile roof. Inside the outshut, the rear wall of the house displays close studding with a tension brace in the right-hand corner. There is one four-light window with diamond-section mullions and one two-light window with an ovolo-moulded surround, along with a plank door. Above the lean-to roof, panels of wattle and daub infill are visible at first-floor level.
The interior features close studded walling, chamfered ceiling beams, exposed joists, and a chamfered wall plate. There is a massive brick stack, jowled wall posts extending to the first floor, and exposed common rafters with wind bracing.
