Description
A farmhouse, dating back to the 16th century, with additions from the 17th and 18th centuries. It is timber framed and covered with a cement render, topped with a plain tiled roof. The original plan comprised three rooms, with two further rooms added in the 17th century. The front of the house features a single-storey porch with a glazed door at the centre. Most of the windows are from the 19th or 20th century, including a three-light casement to the left of the porch, and two three-light and one four-light casements on the ground floor. The first floor has two three-light, one four-light and one two-light windows. A prominent chimney stack rises from the roof to the left of centre, featuring a rectangular base with a moulded top and six circular flues decorated with lions, crosses and roses in relief, along with acanthus leaves at the bases. A smaller, 19th-century chimney stack is located to the right. A 17th-century addition sits to the right, featuring two ground-floor three-light casements. A 19th or 20th-century lean-to addition extends to the far right, with a single three-light casement. The right-hand gable end has a lean-to extension with two two-light casements and French windows, and a three-light casement above. A cross-axial chimney stack with two diamond-section flues, largely rebuilt in the 20th century, is located at the left of the ridge on this gable end. The rear of the house includes a five-light window to the 17th-century portion on the right, with a central glazed door. To the left are four casements – a four-light, a three-light and a two-light – dating from the 19th or 20th century. Four three-light casements are on the first floor. The 17th-century section on the left has a stable door and a semi-dormer window with a flat head. A 19th-century lean-to extends to the left with a four-light bay window. Inside, the ground floor has chamfered beams with jewelled and die-out ogee end stops, and close-studded walling. A baffle-entry lobby contains a winder staircase with 19th-century treads. Other features include jowled wall posts on the first floor, a four-centered chimney arch with a moulded brick surround, wide floorboards, and three-plank doors with moulded muntins.
