Description
This barn, located about 15 yards north-west of the Church of St Peter and St Paul, dates from the mid-18th century and underwent some alterations in the mid-19th century. It is constructed partly of brick and partly timber-framed, featuring some weatherboarding and wattle infill, with a plain tiled roof. The barn consists of seven bays arranged east to west, with a wagon bay that has opposed double doors situated second from the east end. The adjacent bays include header ventilation courses.
On the main south elevation, the four westernmost bays have a rectangular opening and three doors. Inside, the eastern end has two rows of square panels, while the south elevation features rectangular panels in the upper part of the wall. The structure includes collar and tie-beam trusses with raking struts and a single tier of trenched purlins. The western part of the barn is floored. Additionally, there is a brick and rubble lean-to addition at the west gable end. This large barn has a strong visual connection to the Church of St Peter and St Paul, especially from the main northern approach.
