Description

Upper Hollings Farm is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed from timber framing with brick infill and has a plain tile roof. It features a brick end stack on the left and a lateral stack at the rear center. The layout is essentially H-shaped, with a hall and unequal gabled cross-wings, the larger of which is on the right.

The farmhouse has two storeys and a cellar beneath the right cross-wing. It showcases mid-19th century scalloped bargeboards on the gables and eaves, and the first floor has a window arrangement of 1:2:1 with 19th century casements. A central gabled porch, also from the mid-19th century, is located at the front.

In terms of framing, the left cross-wing truss has two queen struts supporting the collar and straight angle braces below. The right cross-wing truss features four queen struts to the collar, straight tension braces in the front wall, and large curved braces in the side wall. The hall range has straight angle braces. The walls consist of two square panels high to the wall-plate on the first floor, while the ground floor has been completely rebuilt in brick. Additionally, there is an early 19th century brick outbuilding range attached to the rear of the right wing.
