Description

Steppe Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century and was remodeled in the early 18th century, with some alterations made in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with rendered infill and painted brick, topped with a tiled roof. The building has an H-plan layout, with the main range aligned north to south.

The west front of the farmhouse is two storeys high and includes a band at the ground floor of the central range. It has one window plus two on the upper floor, while the right-hand cross-wing is blind. To the left, there is a 3-light casement window, and the other windows are also 3-light casements. The ground floor has one window plus two more in the center, all of which are mostly 3-light casements, with the two central windows set under segmental heads and separated by a brick buttress.

The entrance is located at the left-hand angle of the cross-wing and features a gabled and tiled 19th-century brick porch, which has a Tudor arch over a 20th-century Tudor style door. The right-hand cross-wing has close-studded framing with a mid-rail and a moulded bressummer that indicates a former jetty. The gable truss has three struts supporting the collar and clasped purlins. The left-hand range is also close-studded, with gable trusses that are studded with collars.
