Description

Great Gable is a barn dating from the early 18th century, located on Barbers Lane in Martley. It is timber-framed and sits on a plinth made of brick and rubble, with a plain tile roof. The barn has three bays and features a central threshing floor. The framing consists of tall single rectangular panels below the wall-plate. The roof trusses include collars and raking struts that connect the tie-beam to the principal rafters, along with trenched purlins. The building is also shown on the Ordnance Survey as Lingen's Farm.
