Description
This barn, located about 35 yards north-north-west of Laddin Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It features high rubble and brick plinths, with a timber frame that is partly weatherboarded and partly filled with brick, topped by a slate roof. The barn has six or seven structural bays arranged east to west.
On the south elevation, there are two sets of ledged full-height opposed doors leading to the threshing floors, each positioned one bay in from the ends. The left section has a rubble plinth, occasional tension braces, and brick panels, while the right section, likely an extension, has a brick plinth and a mid-19th century brick gable end with two low sets of ventilation holes and a weatherboarded gable.
Inside, there are two trusses on either side of the right-hand threshing floor, featuring raking struts from the tie to the principals, along with a similar arrangement that includes a central post supporting a collar. The remaining trusses were inaccessible during the re-survey in January 1985.
