Description
The Rectory, now a house, is possibly from the late 16th century to early 17th century, featuring a large early 19th-century front range and two wings with a tablet dated 1866 at the rear. The early part is timber-framed, while the early 19th-century range is made of brick and stucco, and the wings from 1866 are also brick, all topped with slate roofs. The building has a roughly rectangular plan, consisting of parallel 17th-century and early 19th-century ranges, with two late 19th-century wings attached at right angles to the latter.
The main elevation faces northeast and is two storeys high with three bays. It includes glazing bar sashes and a lean-to with symmetrical windows under segmental heads on either side of a central late 20th-century door with a 19th-century fanlight, flanked by two narrow lights. The entry within the lean-to features a deeply moulded semi-circular headed early 19th-century architrave that contains a fanlight and a four-panelled door, with the top two panels being glazed. The roof is hipped.
On the southeast elevation, there is an exposed timber-framed two-storey gable with close-studding on the first floor, two symmetrical tension braces at the corner posts, and brick infill with rubble repairs at the left corner. The opposite end of the timber-framed range is finished in roughcast.
