Description

Huntley's Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 16th century, with additions from the 17th century and later. It features a timber-frame construction with brick and plaster infill, primarily rendered on the north side, along with brick and stone stacks and concrete tiled roofs. The building has a rectangular plan oriented east to west, with three gabled wings that project northward—two from the west end and one from the east end. There is a large, roughly central gabled porch on the north side. The farmhouse has cellars, two storeys, and attics.

The north elevation displays a window arrangement of 1:2:1:1, with most windows being 19th to mid-20th century casements beneath weatherings. The left gable front features a battered rubble plinth and an 18th-century porch. The second gable front shows exposed framing, while the rendered right-hand gable frame includes moulded bressummers with scrolled brackets and a four-light mullioned window on the first floor. The porch contains a ledged and studded 17th-century door, which has run-out chamfer-stops on the doorway frame. A large brick ridge stack is located to the left of centre, and there is a stone external end stack with a diagonally-set brick shaft on the right-hand return.

The south elevation reveals exposed framing and a central gable. Inside, the ground floor features ovolo moulded ceiling beams in the west rooms and a 17th-century open well staircase with a moulded handrail and turned balusters. A painted glass sundial, mentioned in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments, is no longer present. The west wing includes large arch braces that support the principals and collars, with two vertical struts. Overall, Huntley's Farmhouse is a large building that has seen little restoration and retains a significant amount of early detail.
