Farmhouse. Probably C16 with C17 and later additions. Timber-frame with brick and plaster infill mainly rendered to north, brick and stone stacks, concrete tiled roofs. Rectangular plan aligned east/west with three gabled wings projecting northward, two from the west end and one from the east end; large roughly central gabled north porch. Cellars and two storeys and attics. North elevation has 1:2:1:1 windows, mainly C19 to mid-C20 casements under weatherings, battered rubble plinth to left gable front, C18 porch; exposed framing to second gable front; rendered right hand gable frame has moulded bressummers with scrolled brackets and 4-light mullioned window to first floor; ledged and studded C17 door in porch with run-out chamfer-stops to doorway frame; large brick ridge stack to left of centre, stone external end stack with diagonally-set brick shaft to right hand return. South elevation has exposed framing and central gable. Interior: ground floor has ovolo moulded ceiling beams to west rooms; C17 open well staircase with moudled handrail and turned balusters; painted glass sundial referred to in RCHM (Vol II, p 133) no longer survives. West wing has large arch braces supporting principals and collars with two vertical struts. A large, generally little restored building, retaining a great amount of early detail.
