Description
Martley Court is a farmhouse dating back to the 17th century, with significant remodelling in the early 19th century and later alterations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The construction is primarily brick with an ashlar plinth, featuring an ashlar stack on the left side with a brick shaft, and another brick stack towards the right. The roof is hipped and covered with plain tiles, formed of two parallel ranges.
The main front of the building showcases early 19th-century design elements, with a modillioned cornice and three storeys, comprising three bays. The central bay projects forward, topped with a pediment. It has tripartite sash windows with segmental heads. The central entrance is sheltered by a late 20th-century pedimented canopy supported by stone Tuscan columns.
The garden front exhibits a brick band marking the first floor and a stone string at ground floor level. It includes two 19th-century three-light casements on the first floor, one on the second floor to the right, and a tripartite sash window on the ground floor to the right. The central entrance here is also under a pedimented canopy, this one resting on scroll brackets, leading to a six-panelled door with the two upper panels glazed.
