Description
The war memorial, located in the park to the east of the Church of Holy Trinity, was constructed around 1920. It features a bronze figure created by G.A. (or A.G.) Walker from the G. Fiorini Foundry, set on a granite base. The conical base is faced with crazy paving and includes a plinth at the front that bears a plaque commemorating the monument and park as a war memorial. The plinth has an inscription with names on the front; a bronze relief of naval gunners is on the right side, while a bronze relief depicting airmen and a plane is on the left. The rear of the memorial has both large and small plaques with additional names. At the top stands a statue of a soldier, although the rifle is missing, showcasing fine detail in the uniform and equipment. This war memorial is notable for the quality of its sculpture.
