Description
The Boat Public House is a public house, likely built around 1800 with alterations made in the 1830s. It is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a tile roof with stucco stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range. There is an entablature above the rusticated ground floor, and the windows are fitted with wide architraves and four-pane horned sashes. The entrance to the left of the first window has an architrave and a panelled door, while the entry at the right end has a plank door. There is an architraved panel on the first floor that features a painting of a canal boat. The building has an end stack and a cross-axial stack. To the left, there is a stone-coped brick wall and gate. The rear of the building has a 20th-century extension. Inside, some original features remain, such as cornices. The Boat Public House is a notable example of a canal-side public house that still retains its adjacent brewhouse.
