Description
14 George Street is a late 18th-century house that has been converted into an office. It is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. The building has three storeys and a symmetrical three-window arrangement. There are sill bands at the ground and first floors, topped by a modillioned cornice and a blocking course.
The ground floor has tripartite windows supported by Doric colonnettes, with entablatures that include fluted friezes and paterae, and 4-pane sash windows. The first-floor windows have shaped plaster wedge lintels with keystones and also feature 4-pane sashes. The second-floor windows are topped with rubbed brick flat arches and have 4-pane sashes. The entrance is round-headed and framed by a Doric aedicule, with columns that have fluted capitals, entablature blocks with oval paterae, and an open pediment. The entrance also includes a fanlight with decorative glazing bars and paired three-panelled glazed doors.
There is a gable-end stack, and the return to Snow Hill features two bays; the first bay has a top frieze and cornice, along with a canted bay window, while the second bay projects and contains some sashed windows. Inside, the staircase has boarded-over balusters.
