Description
38 Northgate is a late 18th-century house that has been converted into offices, with early 19th-century wings added. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features hipped roofs made of slate and pantiles. It has a plinth, a first-floor band, a moulded eaves cornice, and a low parapet, along with four side wall stacks. The main block is three storeys high and has three windows, with the central bay projecting beneath a pediment. The two-storey wings have single windows, with those on the right wing featuring segmental heads. There are central steps leading to a Classical doorcase that has an open pediment supported by scroll brackets, a fielded six-panel door, and a Gothic fanlight. Each wing contains a blocked segment-headed doorway, and the rear wing includes a canted two-storey bay window. Inside, there is a dogleg stair with landings, stick balusters, and a ramped scrolled handrail. The interior also features a late 18th-century hob grate and five fielded panelled doors.
