Description
Denning House, formerly listed as 555 and 556 Dudley Road, is located on George Street in Wolverhampton. This building dates from the early 19th century and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. It is constructed of brick with a plastered ground floor and stone dressings, topped with a hipped slate roof. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys high with a basement, featuring a symmetrical three-window arrangement.
The ground floor showcases round-arched recesses, a sill band, a top dentilled cornice, and a blocking course. The windows on the first and second floors have rubbed brick flat arches, with 12-pane sash windows on the ground and first floors, and 6-pane sash windows on the second floor. A later central entrance includes a deep 6-pane overlight and steps leading up to it. There is a gable-end stack, and the property is enclosed by plain iron area railings added in the 20th century. The left return facing Dudley Road retains a similar three-window range but has been significantly altered, with two doorcases and a shop front removed. The rear elevation is similar in style. The interior has not been inspected.
