Description
No. 9 George Street is a house that has been converted into an office. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some later alterations. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a parapeted roof. It has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall with a four-window range.
The ground floor showcases a lintel frieze and cornice, while the first floor has a sill band and a later painted brick parapet. The ground floor includes canted bay windows with entablatures and sash windows, with a sash window likely replacing the original entrance. The first floor features windows with rusticated wedge lintels and keystones above four-pane sashes, with the first window being wider and the third window narrower. The second floor also has similar four-pane sashes.
The round-headed entrance, located in the first bay, is framed by a Doric aedicule with an open pediment, a fanlight, and a six-panel door. At the rear, there is a 20th-century extension. The building is included for its group value.
