Description

9 George Road is a small Italianate stucco villa built between 1850 and 1855, located in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The building is two storeys high with a symmetrical three-bay front. It features a plinth, a first-floor sill band, and a bed mould to the frieze, which is adorned with acanthus-decorated metopes positioned between enriched acanthus consoles that support the eaves of the slate roof.

The villa has tall arched panel stucco chimneys topped with cornices and ornamental pots. The first-floor windows are framed with architrave surrounds, with the central window having a segmental head. The ground-floor windows are set in raised plain surrounds with splayed feet and feature elongated console brackets supporting cornices with shallow blocking courses.

The central doorway is framed by an ornate surround made of panelled pilaster strips, with large console brackets at the front and profiled brackets at the sides that support a heavy cornice. Above the blocking course, there is a scrolled iron flower guard for the first-floor window. The panelled door is complemented by a semi-circular fanlight, which is recessed with panelled reveals and soffit.
