Description

22 George Road is a Grade II listed large detached Grecian stucco villa built around 1850. The villa has two storeys, with its long side parallel to the road and a shorter three-bay entrance front facing south. It is set back in large gardens, featuring a carriage sweep that leads to the south front.

The three-bay entrance front has a slightly recessed center, topped with a shorter pediment supported by finely moulded console brackets. The roof is low and hipped, covered with slate and has flat eaves, along with corniced chimneys. Architectural details include a plinth, a first-floor sill course, and an eaves frieze and cornice. The villa features revealed glazing bar sash windows; those on the ground floor extend down to the plinth and have moulded blind boxes on console brackets, while the first-floor windows have panelled sills.

The porch is in antis, featuring fluted Ionic columns that support a heavy entablature adorned with acroteria. The blocking course of the porch supports the first-floor window sill. The entrance has a panelled door with a rectangular fanlight and patterned glazing.

To the east, the villa has two bay flanks that are extended by an additional five bays, which include a canted bay topped by a balustraded balcony and two first-floor windows with architrave surrounds.
