Description

GEORGE ROAD 1. 5104 Edgbaston B15 Nos 36 and 37 SP 0585 NE 40/38 II GV 2. C1830 originally identical pair of previously detached red brick classical villas with flanking coach houses. Two storey 3 bay symmetrical fronts with shallow plinths. No 35 retains stucco frieze and moulded cornice with short sections of parapet flanking broad pediment. No 36 retains frieze but no pediment, rebuilt brick parapet with coping. Gable end slate roofs with flanking brick chimneys with stucco cornices. Tall proportions to windows; revealed glazing bar sashes with stucco courses on consoles, block pediments over those on ground floor and block stucco sills. Each has central doorway; engaged Tuscan columns, entablature with pediment blocking course. Panelled door in panelled revealed with rectangular fanlight, that of No 36 retaining original glazing pattern. No 36 has screen wall coach house to right with upswept parapet and coping. No 37 has lean to 2 storey coach house to left with 4 canted arch doorway, the doors made of diagonal tongue and groove.
