Description
Nos 5 and 6 George Road are a pair of symmetrical, two-storey houses built between 1800 and 1810. They are constructed of corniced stucco and feature seven bays, with the central bay containing a tunnel passage. Originally, these houses were part of a terrace, but No 4 has been demolished. The buildings have a hipped slate roof with moulded eaves and brick chimney stacks.
The central three bays are slightly set forward and topped with a moulded triangular pediment. No 5 retains all of its original features, including revealed glazing bar sash windows, an arched panel next to the central window, and a blind window on the first floor. The round-headed doorway has panelled reveals, soffit, and door, along with a radial glazed fanlight, all framed by a doorcase with engaged slender Tuscan columns, roundels on the entablature, and an open pediment.
No 6 has an identical doorway, but the first-floor windows have lost their glazing bars. The ground floor features pilastered canted bay windows from around 1860, which have scalloped slate pent roofs and fretted bracketed courses. The central passage doorway includes a blind lunette.
