Description
No. 8 George Road is a two-storey, three-bay house built around 1800 to 1810. It is likely originally red brick but has been refaced in stucco, with alterations made around 1840. The central doorway features a plain glazing bar sash window above and is flanked by two-storey canted bays from 1840, each with pilastered sash lights and a cornice on both floors. The moulded top cornice extends across the entire elevation. The house has a rebuilt brick parapet and a gable end slate roof with stucco chimney stacks, one of which dates from 1840 and includes arched panels, a cornice, and ornamental pots. The entrance features a round-headed architrave doorway that is recessed with a flat cornice hood and a radial glazed fanlight above, which was formerly part of a porch. The entrance is raised and accessed by a flight of four steps.
