Description

GEORGE STREET 1. 5104 City Centre B3 Block to New Hall Works Fronting onto George Street (formerly listed as New Hall Works) SP 0687 SW 28/11 3.7.74 II 2. Large red brick factory C1860-70. A symmetrical 3 storey range with a 4 storey centre piece, 27 window bays, virtually all openings of identical size, segment headed with moulded brick jambs. Continuous stucco dentil cornice over second floor. The 3 bay centre piece is flanked by tower like projections of one window. Tripartite arched door and windows framed in stucco with New Hall Works, incised on frieze below dentil cornice; the third floor of centre piece has serried range of arcaded small windows with further stucco cornice surmounted by big Royal Arms, single round arched small windows to top stage of towers. The central 3 bays of each wing are advanced; the eastern wing has lost end bay and part of cornice. End 2 bays of western wing have broad segmental arched waggon entrance on ground floor. The ground floor windows of both wings are set in arcading with blue brick plinths flanking the railed basement windows.
