Description

The building is a large red brick factory, constructed between 1860 and 1870, known as the Block to New Hall Works, which fronts onto George Street. It features a symmetrical three-storey range with a four-storey central section, comprising 27 window bays. Most openings are of identical size, segment-headed, and have moulded brick jambs. A continuous stucco dentil cornice runs above the second floor.

The three-bay central section is flanked by tower-like projections, each with one window. The central entrance has a tripartite arched door and windows framed in stucco, with "New Hall Works" incised on the frieze below the dentil cornice. The third floor of the central section displays a series of small arcaded windows, topped by another stucco cornice and a large Royal Arms. The top stage of the towers features single round-arched small windows.

The central three bays of each wing are slightly advanced, while the eastern wing has lost its end bay and part of the cornice. The end two bays of the western wing include a broad segmental arched wagon entrance on the ground floor. The ground floor windows of both wings are set within arcading, with blue brick plinths flanking the railed basement windows.
