Description
No. 28 Vittoria Street is a Grade II listed building, constructed around 1859 as an early purpose-built jewellery works on a domestic plot. This three-storey structure is made of red brick and features early Gothic detailing, which is quite elaborate for a modest three-bay front. The building includes stone and gault brick dressings.
On the ground floor, there are office and works doorways flanking a central window that has three lights and is supported by columns. Sill bands are present on both the first and second floors. The first-floor windows are arched and grouped within a panel, with foliate carvings on the caps of the dividing piers that continue as an impost string across the front. The top of the panel has bricks cut to resemble a billet mould, a pattern that is also found below the dentil brick eaves cornice and across the flat head of the second-floor triple group of windows, which are also set in a panel with Gothic carvings on the caps of the dividing piers.
