Description

12 and 13 Frederick Street are a purpose-built jewellery workshop dating to the 1870s and 1880s, located within the Hockley area. The three-storey building is constructed of red brick with blue brick dressings around the window arches, a design feature consistently applied on the upper floors. The facade is six bays wide. A blue brick band marks the boundary between window sills on each floor, set above a plinth. The roof is low-pitched and covered with slate, with boxed flat eaves. On the ground floor, two three-light display windows flank a doorway, each with a shallow, shaped fascia that is sensitively lettered. The fascia on the left hand side covers a four-panel door with a plain fanlight above. A segmental waggon arch, slightly off-centre, abuts the round-headed doorway. The round arched upper floor windows, along with the waggon arch, have blue brick trim and alternating pairs of blue voussoir bricks, creating a two-tone colour scheme that contrasts with the stucco window sills.
