Description

FREDERICK STREET 1. 5104 Hockley B1 No 52 SP 0687 SW 28/2 II GV 2. (Includes No 49 Albion Street). 1860s a modest 2 storey corner block of offices and showrooms but including workshops and with a corner 2 storey range of shopping to Albion Street. Light red brick with restrained stucco dressings. Three bays to Frederick Street front of corner with 2 bay return to Albion Street. Shallow plinth; stepped band below shallow boxed eaves of low pitched half hipped slate roof. Red brick stucco corniced chimney above Albion Street front. Round headed windows on both floors with stucco imposts and trim to arches. Round headed doorway with keystone. The shopping range has stepped brick eaves to low pitched slate roof. Round headed windows on ground floor with linked imposts and stucco trim to arches. Cill band to first floor with segmental arched close set windows with stringcourse at impost level carried up over arches. All windows on this range retain iron fixed glazing. An early jewellry quarter works on a prominent corner site.
