Description

This building, located at 2 Warstone Parade East in Birmingham, is a late 19th-century manufactory with some minor alterations made in the late 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, featuring gauged brick embellishments and painted stone dressings, with slate roof coverings.

The building has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a three-storey street frontage range with three bays and an elongated workshop range to the south of a narrow rear yard. The symmetrical street frontage has semi-circular arch-headed openings on either side of the central ground floor; the entrance to the building is on the right, while the entrance to the yard is on the left. There is a wide window opening in the center below a gauged brick flat arch, which has a 20th-century replacement frame. The first floor features narrow outer window openings flanking a wider central window, all with painted cills and sash frames; the central window has three over three panes. The upper floor has smaller window openings with two over two pane sashes beneath shallow segmental-arched heads.

The rear elevation includes a three-storey workshop range with a monopitch roof on the south side of the narrow rear yard. This building forms a group with No. 4 Warstone Parade East and is noted for its architectural details and plan form that reflect the characteristics of industrial buildings in this specialist industrial quarter of Birmingham, which is now recognized for its international significance.
