Description
No. 9 Vyse Street is a Grade II listed building, constructed around 1880 as a purpose-built works and showroom. It features an unusual Gothic design for Birmingham, made of brick and terracotta, and has a symmetrical facade with an ogee arched French influence. The building consists of four bays across three storeys. The terracotta chimneys have been painted.
On the ground floor, doors are located on either side of the two windows, all set in splayed reveals. The upper parts of the windows and their arches are made of terracotta, featuring moulded shallow four-centred heads. Drip moulds are linked on floral stops and are ogee arched with finials above the doorways. The doorways retain the original tongue and groove panelled floors.
The first-floor windows are similarly arcaded, all with ogee heads and linked drip moulds that have crocketed finials. The top floor features windows with two lights set in a mullioned arcade, where the mullions drop below the sill course. The building has moulded eaves and a hipped slate roof, adorned with crocketed finials flanking the ridge tiles.
